Difficult Challenges, Group Solutions

“The findings are clear: Our relationship with nature is broken.

Biodiversity – the rich diversity of life on Earth – is being lost at an alarming rate. This loss effects our own health and well-being. Today, catastrophic impacts for people and the planet loom closer than ever.”

This is a quote from the World Wildlife Fund’s Living Planet Report (1). Habitat destruction, pollution from plastics, and harmful chemical waste present constant and growing threats to our environment. By some estimates (1)(2)(3) up to 275 million metric tons of plastic waste are generated globally each year; much of which ends up polluting our natural land and waterways. Already approximately 25% of the world’s coral reefs have already been damaged beyond repair, and as much 75% are threatened (4). Meanwhile although the rate of deforestation has decreased in recent decades, we are still losing forest land and previously untouched natural habitats at an unsustainable rate (5). These are issues on a global scale, issues that can’t be ignored.

While this paints quite the apocalyptic picture, it is our belief that we can still make a difference. At Shop Green Home our goal is to help repair our relationship with nature. We believe that many consumers actively want to work towards this goal as well, but may be daunted by the work required to find products that fit these requirements, or simply don’t know where to begin. That’s where we come in. Prior to offering any product, we thoroughly vet each company to verify that we are part of the solution and not part of the problem. Each brand we work with must demonstrate that they make efforts to minimize negative environmental impacts and prioritize a healthy relationship with nature. This effort takes different forms across the brands we work with and from product to product. We work with small family-owned companies who emphasize sustainable small-batch production and locally sourced ingredients. We also work with larger companies who pledge their profits to environmental organizations and ensure that their products include only ethically sourced natural ingredients. These products are cruelty free, and many are vegan or fully organic where possible. By choosing to Shop Green you are helping to support these causes, helping to repair our relationship with nature, and reduce our negative impacts.

At Shop Green Home we aim to not only provide these essential products, but also provide  information to our customers about how we can all do our part. Below is a list of eco-friendly certifications and organizations who work towards the same goal.
